Dr. John Perkins is the founder of the modern Christian community development movement. A Quiet Revolution chronicles much of his life and the ministry philosophy that it birthed. One of the crucial insights of Perkin’s ministry is precisely how faith intersects with the material realities of the poor. Perkins shows us how faith shows up in concrete acts of neighborly love that can manifest on both interpersonal and systemic levels.
Perkins pioneered the “Three Rs” of relocation, reconciliation, and redistribution, and modeled them with his own life. After initially leaving the Jim Crow South, he returned to his home state to engage in ministry (relocation), he courageously engaged in reconciliation work across racial lines, and he launched multiple ministries to create equitable access to resources for the poor. The Christian Community Development Association (CCDA) is one of the many organizations that comprise his legacy.
